Three things

My friend, Not Nurse Ratched, recently posted about a new productivity tip that she's working on: set three goals every day. Just three. Then get those done.

A very good idea, so I woke up today, with a list of three: finish reading a book, take the notes on it, and buy a new pair of headphones for my iPod.

If I stay up for another hour, I actually stand a chance of accomplishing #1 & 2. But I missed out on #3. On the other hand, I did manage to get to a yoga class today, so that's a good thing.

::sigh:: Is there anything more boring than a "to-do list" post? But this is what I've got today, I'm afraid.

UPDATE: Done! Well, except for the 12-page conclusion, and I can polish that off tomorrow morning before my coffee gets cold. Provided, of course, I don't sleep through my alarm again.

It's amazing, but three things a day sounds quite ambitious to me.

Let's see: today I must: 1) teach a class & hold office hours; 2)look over the dissertation I just ordered a little more; 3) figure out my costume for the evening's entertainment, a costume party with performance by a cabaret-style group from London.

I just finished the notes on last night's book. Today's three things: 1. Read & take notes on an article in German; 2. Buy bus tickets & headphones; 3. Do some houshold chores, including laundry.

Not hugely ambitious, but I plead for pity -- German, I tell you!

I saw a great solution to that alarm clock problem in a magazine. You can get one now that buzzes when it goes off and at the same time, two large wheels on the sides start spinning so you have to catch the clock before you can shut it off. No joke.

My three, with progress:

Present at campus symposium: done
Take dogs to vet: appt made
Committee meeting: post-vet

And then I shall retreat, read and hide.

Michael, the real problem is not the technology; it's the fact that I desperately don't want to get out of my nice, toasty bed in the morning.

(What I really need is an alarm clock that yanks off the covers...)
