Was this you melting down? or a student? (Do you all get student meltdowns in your offices?)
Maybe it was sympathetic long-distance co-melting-down with me; I was certainly doing an ugly cry at rigt about that time, though for different reasons.
HI folks. Sadly, it was me (not a student) having the meltdown. Related to yet another "Guess what we're not going to be funding this year?" e-mail. But I'm better now: I slept in an extra hour, and took myself out to breakfast (featuring large amounts of melted cheese). The situation still sucks, and is going to suck even more next year. But today, I'll make it.
Oh no! Sometimes things are just so damn depressing and enraging that a meltdown is a rational response. Perhaps getting it out of the way early means the semester will get better. Right?
I have to admit, my first image when I read the post was of a sad student in your office crying.
Yeah, funding crap can be horrible. Knowing that you can do this totally awesome shit and then finding out that you can't do it because some motherfuckers won't give you the fucking money sucks.
yea, when they make it hard/impossible to do your research, and then preach about how important research is to excellent teaching...I had a meltdown over our funding cuts too.
It is amazing how much a decent night's sleep will reduce to manageability. I am right now failing to take my own advice mind, but I know it intellectually. As a very wise friend of mine once said: "Sleep solves most things. Well. Some things. Like, lack of sleep." These, unlikely though it seems, are words to live by. Meanwhile, my sympathy. Miss E's beautiful geese will see you through, I'll bet.

that's not good. You can always rant in private if you need ...
I'm sorry. :(
Oh dear. That is early. I usually schedule my Fall semester meltdown for the end of October, when it seems like the treadmill will never stop turning.

I'm sorry to hear it was you. I assumed it was a fragile student with a bad midterm grade!
Maybe you should start working at home more? Either that, or shut off your work e-mail when you can (or just don't read it if you can resist.)
I only avoided a meltdown by going home early today.

Hang in there! Some day, the funding will come back... In the meantime, keep up the writing!
